Unable to boot VPS in SolusVM 2: cannot set up guest memory 'pc.ram': Cannot allocate memory

Symptoms

  1. Unable to boot VPS in SolusVM 2 - the following error is seen in SolusVM 2 > Tasks > vm-start for the affected VPS:

    CONFIG_TEXT: qemu-system-x86_64: cannot set up guest memory 'pc.ram': Cannot allocate memory

  2. Memory value of Plan used to create VPS in SolusVM 2 > Compute Resources > Plans > Used Plan

    is bigger than available RAM on the Compute Resource:

    # free -g
    total used free shared buff/cache available
    Mem: 7 3 1 0 2 3
    Swap: 7 0 7

Cause

Incorrect Memory set for Plan in SolusIO.

Resolution

  1. Access SolusVM 2 Admin interface.
  2. Create a new plan with less Memory in SolusVM 2 > Compute Resources > Plans > Add Plan.

    SVM_WARN: in SolusVM 2 Memory is calculated in gigabytes.

  3. Switch VPS to the new resource plan.
