Question
How to migrate from SolusVM to SolusVM 2?
Answer
Direct upgrade from SolusVM to SolusVM 2 is not possible.
However, the transfer of Slave Nodes to Compute Resources in SolusVM 2 is possible via the "import tool".
- It will be necessary to set up a new SolusVM 2 Management node and use our built-in "Cluster Import" tool.
There will be an installation of the agent on the existing SolusVM slave node, so SolusVM 2 will be able to manage VPSes running on the existing SolusVM 1. - Here are the limitations and risks when migrating VMs from Solus1 to Solus2:
Risk and limitations when importing Slave nodes to SolusVM 2
Note: Keep in mind that Solus2 does not support XEN or Hyper-V
- Don't forget to remove/disable the old agents on the Nodes to avoid issues as per our Cluster Import guide in step 1
Thus, if you would like to continue using some VMs from a particular Slave node under Solus 1 while all other VMs are under SolusVM2, you can:
- Move the desired Solus 1 VMs from that particular node to another that is under Solus 1 and will remain under SolusVM 1, then simply use the "Cluster Import" tool in your new SolusVM 2.
- Make a full backup of these VMs. Then migrate the whole Slave node to SolusVM2, stop and remove the VMs from Solus 2, which you had made backups of.
Then in Solus 1, you can either restore from the backup under a new node or use the already moved VMs.
Note: Keep in mind that the VM IDs will be different when migrated, and you will need to disable the old Master Node. Lastly, Migration from Solus1 to Solus2 does not support partial migration.
Let's say only a few VMs from a given Slave node.
