Symptoms

Debian-based KVM VPS consumes 8% CPU in idle state when there are no processes that can cause such load. How to get rid of it?

Cause

Based on some reports KVM settings for USB-tablet input can cause such behavior:

CONFIG_TEXT: <input type='tablet' bus='usb'>
<address type='usb' bus='0' port='1'/>
</input>

Resolution

SolusVM has a feature that allows to disable these settings for VPS.

  1. Log into SolusVM web interface
  2. Browse to VPS management page Dashboard > Virtual Server > vps_id
  3. Click on [turn off] against Tablet Input Device, then click on Rewrite Config to apply changes
