SolusVM Email notifications do not work when SMTP is used: 535 Incorrect authentication data

Symptoms

1. SolusVM Email notifications do not work when SMTP is used in SolusVM > Configuration > Settings > Mail > Mail Type.

2. With SMTP Debug the following is shown on an attempt to send a test message in SolusVM > Tools > Email:

   SVM_ERROR: SMTP ERROR: Password command failed: 535 Incorrect authentication data
   SMTP Error: Could not authenticate.
   CLIENT -> SERVER: QUIT
   SERVER -> CLIENT: 221 mail.example.com closing connection

Cause

Incorrect SMTP password set in SolusVM > Configuration > Settings > Mail > SMTP Password.

Resolution

1. log in to SolusVM administrator interface.

2. Open SolusVM > Configuration > Settings > Mail.

3. Change SMTP Password and click Update.
