Fail to start XEN PV VPS in SolusVM: RuntimeError: Unable to find partition containing kernel

Symptoms

  • Fail to start XEN PV VPS in SolusVM - it stays offline
  • When trying to start the VPS manually there is an error:

    # xl create /home/xen/vm101/vm101.cfg
    libxl: error: libxl_bootloader.c:649:bootloader_finished: Domain 1838:bootloader failed - consult logfile /var/log/xen/bootloader.1838.log
    libxl: error: libxl_exec.c:118:libxl_report_child_exitstatus: bootloader [1146] exited with error status 1
    libxl: error: libxl_create.c:1290:domcreate_rebuild_done: Domain 1838:cannot (re-)build domain: -3
    libxl: error: libxl_domain.c:1038:libxl__destroy_domid: Domain 1838:Non-existant domain
    libxl: error: libxl_domain.c:993:domain_destroy_callback: Domain 1838:Unable to destroy guest
    libxl: error: libxl_domain.c:920:domain_destroy_cb: Domain 1838:Destruction of domain failed

  • In the log file from error /var/log/xen/bootloader.1838.log there is an error:

    CONFIG_TEXT: File "/usr/lib64/xen/bin/pygrub", line 929, in <module>
    raise RuntimeError, "Unable to find partition containing kernel"
    RuntimeError: Unable to find partition containing kernel

Cause

PyGrub kernel is set up for VPS.

Resolution

  1. Login to SolusVM admin panel
  2. Browse to SolusVM > Virtual Servers > VPS
  3. In Settings section set Kernel as 'Default' and click Set

  5. Shutdown and Boot the VPS
