Error “You can’t create a server with the selected combination of a plan, location, OS image/application” when creating a VM in SolusVM 2

Applicable to:

  • SolusVM 2

Symptoms

  1. One of the following errors appears when creating or reinstalling a VM in SolusVM 2:

PRODUCT_ERROR: You can't create a server with the selected combination of a plan, location, OS image/application. Please contact support.

PRODUCT_ERROR: The selected plan and OS image version are not compatible with each other. Please select a different plan and/or OS image version.

  2. Related symptoms:
  • The required OS (for example, Ubuntu 26.04) is greyed out or missing in the VM creation form.
  • Built-in applications (for example, Open WebUI, LibreChat, Flowise) cannot be selected.

Cause

The selected OS image or application is not assigned to the chosen plan, or the plan/location combination is misconfigured. SolusVM 2.0 only allows an OS image or application that is enabled for the selected plan.

Resolution

Verify that the plan, location, and OS image/application exist and that the OS image/application is included in the chosen plan. Use either of the following options:

Option 1: Edit the OS image
  1. Go to Operating Systems, open the relevant OS section (for example, Ubuntu), and click the required image version.
  2. Select the required plan(s) and click Save changes.
  3. Refresh the VM creation page and try again.

Option 2: Edit the plan

  1. Go to Plans and click Edit plan for the plan in use.
  2. Add the required OS/application, or click Add all compatible Operating Systems.
  3. Save and try again.

If the issue persists:

  1. Edit the OS image, note the default plans currently assigned, deselect all of them (leave the Custom Plan unchanged), and click Save.
  2. Edit the same image again, reselect the plans, and click Save changes.
  3. Create a test VM with the image on different plans.
  4. Alternatively, create a new plan and use it for the VM.
  5. If only an existing VM fails on reinstall, re-provision that VM.

Note: - A large list of custom plans is expected. A custom plan is created when a VM is resized, and the VM’s OS image is associated with it.
    - If the issue is not resolved, contact SolusVM Support and provide SSH access to the SolusVM 2 management server.
