OpenVZ containers fails to start: vzquota : Inappropriate ioctl for device

Symptoms 

  • OpenVZ containers fails to start in SolusVM - VPS stays offline
  • The following error is displayed when rebooting VPS in debug mode at SolusVM > Virtual Servers > VPS > Reboot(Debug):

    CONFIG_TEXT: Starting container...
    vzquota : (error) Quota getstat syscall for id 9816: Inappropriate ioctl for device
    vzquota on failed [3]

Cause

vzctl package is corrupted:

# service vz status
vz: unrecognized service

Resolution

  1. Connect to corresponding OpenVZ node via SSH
  2. Reinstall vzctl package:

    # yum reinstall vzctl
